Rescuers use flare to locate lost hikers

Rescuers used an illuminating flare to track down lost hikers in the darkness in Ireland.

Two tourists, thought to be from Austria, were lost one evening in November while hiking at in County Clare.

The couple raised the alarm after they got lost around Cahermaclancy, between Doolin and Lisdoonvarna, and darkness fell, reports the Clare Herald.

The Gardaí and members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard searched for the couple, who provided an approximate location using maps on their mobile phone.

However, it turned out to be only a general indication and although the searchers contacted the couple by phone, they could not find them.

Then a Coast Guard member discharged an illumination flare to light up the area, the hikers confirmed they could see it and were able to report their position relative to itThey were found by the rescuers, were unhurt and were taken back to their accommodation.
