Flares were used to light the water in a nighttime search for a vulnerable woman in the UK’s West Country.

Two lifeboats from Burnham-on-Sea RNLI and crews from Burnham Coastguard, Weston-super-Mare Coastguard and BARB Search and Rescue were called to Burnham-on-Sea’s jetty.

They were asked to help Avon and Somerset Police search for a vulnerable woman following concerns for her welfare, reports the Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News.

Coastguard crews and RNLI volunteers searched the beach and water to the north and south of Burnham Jetty.

Burnham RNLI fired two illumination flares so rescue workers could search the water.

“We would like to say a huge thank you and well done to all the teams attending this job, lots of work in difficult circumstances. This was a good outcome to a multi-agency call out, showing ultimate professional teamwork."
